
The Oswego State women's track and field team opened the outdoor season at the University of Rochester's Alumni Invitational on Thursday afternoon. Leading the way for the Lakers were several key performances in a variety of events.
First up for the Lakers, the 4x100 relay of sophomore Ashalee Joseph, senior Kristen Harrigan, sophomoreAbigail Boyce and freshman Anna Tofolo took fifth place to start the day in a time of 50.27. A half-hour later, Boyce set a career-best in the hurdles, running 16.27 into a strong headwind to take fifth place overall.
In the long jump, Kristen Harrigan set a new career-mark and school record with a leap of 5.20 meters (17'1"). Harrigan set the record on her third attempt in the preliminaries, which held up through the finals, earning her sixth place overall.
In the field events, freshman Alexa Restante scored the first points of her career while competing in her first ever track and field competition. A dual-sport athlete that also plays soccer in the fall for the Lakers, Restante picked up the javelin for the first time in a collegiate event, taking eighth place in the with a toss of 23.71 meters.
Karlee Duffer closed out the meet under the lights in the 10,000-meter run. The junior set a new career-best of 41:10.26 to take third place on the evening.
Oswego State returns to Rochester next Saturday to take part in the Roc City Classic, hosted by Nazereth College. Events begin at 10 a.m.
