Last Second OT Goal Gives Women's Ice Hockey Second Loss

The nationally-ranked Oswego State women's ice hockey team faltered in the final second of overtime to suffer just its second loss of the season 3-2 to Hamilton College on Friday night in the Marano Campus Center Arena. Hamilton is now 4-2-0 on the season with the victory while the No. 7/7 Lakers drop to 11-2-0.

A second before the buzzer sounded to signal the end of overtime, leaving the contest in a 2-2 stalemate, the Continentals' Katie Parkman was able to find the back of the net for the game-winner.
Oswego came back twice on the night, having to erase one-goal deficits on two occasions. In the first period, Hamilton scored the tilt's first goal at the seven-minute mark, but the Lakers answered just 6:58 later on a Victoria Blake equalizer from Laura Thacker.

Following the first intermission, tied at 1-1, the Continentals regained the lead at 8:57 of the second period. Again Oswego answered the challenge, as Jacquelin White knotted the matchup at 2-2, this time 7:35 after the Hamilton tally. White's 10th goal of the season – which ties her for the team-high in that category – was assisted by junior captain Olivia Ellis and senior Alexa Aramburu. It was Ellis' team-leading 15th assist of the campaign.

Junior Mariah Madrigal stopped 23 shots in net for Oswego as her record fell to 8-2-0 on the year.

The Laker penalty-kill unit held Hamilton to 0-for-3 in extra-skater opportunities on Friday, allowing just two shots throughout those situations.

Oswego will have to wait until the New Year to bounce back into the win column when it returns to ECAC Women's West play at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 when Utica College comes to town.
