Late Goal Gives Lakers First SUNYAC Win

OS Soccer

The Oswego State men's soccer broke its streak of three-straight overtime games with New Paltz as Harrison Rieber headed in the game-winner with just minutes to go in regulation. The 2-1 victory gives the Lakers a 4-3-1 record and a 1-1-0 record in the SUNYAC. New Paltz moves to 6-2-0 on the season, 1-1-0 in the conference.

With 2:20 remaining in the game, the Lakers earned a free kick approximately 10 yards outside the 18-yard box. Connor Lunduski lined up to take the kick and cracked one off the crossbar. The rebound caromed towards the six where Rieber out jumped his defender, putting the ball in the back of the net with his head and essentially locking up a win for the Lakers.

The Lakers' first goal came from Jason Siracuse who, after a scoreless first, found the net at the 50:11 mark. Josh Yager ripped a cross in from the right side of the field, finding the Greece N.Y. native on the far post, who headed it in with ease.

Keeper Todd Lawson played a pivotal all game for Oswego, no more than one minute after the Oswego's first goal. New Paltz was awarded a penalty kick for a Laker foul in the box with 28:11 remaining in the game. The Hawk player rocketed a shot to Lawson's right side, but the senior keeper was too quick, stopping the shot, successfully maintaining the lead. Lawson finished the contest with eight total saves.

Men's soccer will return to the field at 3 p.m. on Friday as the team travels to Potsdam to take on the Bears.
