The Oswego State men's soccer team knotted the game 1-1 late in the second half in an effort for a comeback win, but Potsdam was able to notch the game-winner with less than five to play for the 2-1 victory on Friday evening. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 4-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in SUNYAC action while the Bears advance to 7-2-1, 1-0-1.
After a scoreless first half, Potsdam found its way on the scoreboard first, as Ian Warren head in a cross from teammate Mario Riccardi. In the 81st minute, Oswego would tally the equalizer to bring the game back to even at 1-1. Sophomore Connor Lunduski took a direct kick and fired it towards the net. Teammate Jason Siracuse made his way to the ball, deflecting the direct kick past the Bears' keeper at 81:34.
Potsdam was able to subdue the Laker momentum when a corner kick gave way to the eventual game-winner off Alex Griffith's head at 85:46. Just under two minutes later, junior Harrison Rieber tried to tie the game and force overtime, but Potsdam's goalie was able to make the save, stopping the threat.
Todd Lawson played all 90 minutes between the pipes for Oswego, making seven saves in the loss.
Oswego will look to bounce back into the win column when it returns to the field at 1 p.m. on Saturday to face the host Cardinals of Plattsburgh.
