The Oswego State men's tennis team picked up a tight 5-4 victory over Alfred University on Saturday afternoon inside Romney Field House. With the victory, the Lakers move back to .500 at 3-3 while the Saxons drop to 0-3.
Oswego and Alfred split the singles competition on the afternoon, with the Lakers taking the final three matches. At fourth singles, Tyler Buxbaum was able to win the first set by a break, 6-4, before cruising to a match win with a 6-2 second set triumph. In the next singles match, Brian Emigholz surrendered just one game to claim his fifth singles matchup 6-1, 6-0. Dillon McDonald was called upon in the sixth slot and moved past his counterpart with ease, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Alfred was able to score the first match but the Lakers were poised to record the day in the win column. Chris Gayvert paired with Emigholz at second doubles and shot out to an 8-3 win. For third doubles, McDonald and Jimmy Terzian went down to the wire with their opponents, registering the triumph by a break, 9-7.
Oswego will return to the court at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels to Syracuse, N.Y. for a scrimmage against Onondaga Community College.
