The Oswego State women's track and field team got off to a fast start on Saturday in the Brockport Mid-Season Classic.
Senior Meghan Murphy and junior Karlee Duffer put the team on the board early, taking second and third in the 5,000, respectively, to open the meet. Murphy crossed the line in 19:39.99, less than .2 seconds away from Duffer, whose time of 19:40.18 was a lifetime best by over 20 seconds.
The 4x200 followed immediately after and did not disappoint. In their last chance of the season to qualify for the ECAC Championship, the quartet of sophomore Ashalee Joseph, freshman Anna Tofolo and senior Kisten Harrigan and Marissa Pariseau snuck in by just .02 under the qualifying standard, running to a fourth place finish in a time of 1:50.48.
Harrigan and Pariseau also experienced individual success as the meet progressed. Harrigan's time of 1:02.01 in the 400 was an indoor career-best and good enough to earn fourth place overall. Pariseau set a new career-best in the 800, taking sixth place in a time of 2:26.51.
The Lakers finished ninth in the team standings on the afternoon, just three points away from Division I Niagara University. Oswego will travel to Boston University with its top performers later in the week to compete in Friday's Valentine Invitational.
