Oswego Drops Contest to No. 1 Cortland

The Oswego State women's lacrosse was unable to serve No. 1 Cortland its first blemish of the year, falling to the Red Dragons 18-7 on Saturday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego is now 6-3 on the year and 2-2 in the SUNYAC while Cortland improves to 12-0, 4-0.

Early in the contest, the Lakers kept it close, with Emily Lange and Erannan Shattuck scoring goals to make it 3-2 deficit with 22:30 to go in the first. Cortland then strung together four-straight tallies, a run from which Oswego could not recover.

Lange added two more goals on her day to lead Oswego, also chipping in two ground balls and two controls off the draw. A trio of Lakers finished with two points apiece, as E. Shattuck and Esther Gabriel recorded two scores while Teresa Shattuck distributed two assists.

In the net, Angela Ponto made eight saves in the loss but collected a game-high five ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers. Defensively, Danielle Walker made her presence known with a caused turnover and four ground balls. Nicole Granteed, T. Shattuck, Lindsey Eggers and Jayme McCreary each caused one Red Dragon turnovers as well.

T. Shattuck (2), Gabriel (2) and Eggers (1) joined Lange in the draw control effort, combining for the squad's eight wins.

Oswego was more efficient on free-position opportunities, finding success on 60.0% (3-for-5) of its chances compared to Cortland's 50.0% (2-for-4) effort. Both teams were above 70.0% on the clear, with the Red Dragons completing 13-for-17 while the Lakers finished 15-for-21.

The Lakers will return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Buffalo State in another conference matchup.
