Oswego Ends Weekend with Loss to Buffalo State

OS Basketball

The Oswego State men's basketball team fell 80-76 against Buffalo State Saturday afternoon on the road. The team drops to 13-7 on the year and 9-4 in SUNYAC play. Buffalo State improves to 13-7 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

The first half started off well for the Lakers as just 5:31 in, the team already found themselves up by eight points. Buffalo State clawed its way back though, regaining the lead at the 10:38 mark and maintaining it until halftime where it took a 45-42 lead into the locker room. The second half told a similar tale, with Oswego securing a seven point lead early on. The Bengals once again retook the lead though, this time with 4:41 remaining in regulation and never let it go. Walter Sampson did knock in two free throws with 1:09 left to tie the game at 76-76 but Buffalo withstood the comeback, eventually earning the 80-76 win.

As a team Oswego shot well, going 41.4% (29-70) from the field. Brian Sortino led all Lakers with 22 points to go along with four boards and three assists. Sampson also pitched in recording 18 points on the day. Underneath the hoop, Rashawn Powell cleaned up, nabbing seven rebounds while knocking in 11 points of his own.

Men's basketball will return to the court at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday as it hosts the New Paltz Hawks in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
