Oswego Loses Two on Sunday

OS Tennis The Oswego State softball team took two losses to Plattsburgh in a neutral site doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Ray Middle School. With the losses, the Lakers drop to 4-13 on the season and 1-9 in conference play. The Cardinals improved to 3-15 this year and 3-5 in SUNYAC action with the two victories.

GAME ONE – Plattsburgh 3, Oswego 2:

Oswego opened with a run in the bottom of the first as Alexandra McKay smacked an RBI-single into left field to score Katie Bredin. Bredin led off the frame with a single to the shortstop before swiping second base.

Plattsburgh was able to manufacture a run in the third to knot the game at 1-1. Oswego answered in the fifth to take back the lead, again starting with a Bredin single to short. Sammie Schroeter stepped to the dish next and crushed a pitch to deep center field, taking three bags for a triple and scoring Bredin to make it a 2-1 Laker advantage.

In the top of the next frame, the Cardinals again evened the score with an RBI-single. Plattsburgh scored again in the top of the seventh and Oswego were unable to notch a score in its final two at-bats to take a tough 3-2 loss.

Seven different Lakers finished with hits as Bredin led the way, going 2-for-3. Schroeter, McKay, Alexis Nasca, Ashley Lyman, Dana Taglioni and Deanna Apps all tallied one hit in the contest.

Katie Heselden took a no-decision on the rubber, throwing six innings, allowing just two runs by scattering nine hits. Alexandria Connelly came on in relief for the seventh inning but surrendered the go-ahead run to fall to 2-6 on the year.

GAME TWO – Plattsburgh 18, Oswego 7:

Once again, Oswego scored first, as Bredin got her third infield single of the day to short, sending Noelle White across the plate. The Lakers would hold the 1-0 until the top of the fifth.

Plattsburgh's bats got hot for the final three innings, scoring four in the fifth, six in the sixth and eight in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Oswego tried clawing back with three runs in each of its last two at-bats but the effort would not pan out.

Bredin again went 2-for-4, this game collecting an RBI. Also going 2-for-4 was McKay and Schroeter, with Schroeter driving in a run while McKay scored once. White also singled twice, scoring and notching a RBI.

Apps had a hit and a RBI while Lyman drove in a run.

Nasca took the loss in the circle, giving up eight runs in 5.2 innings while Heselden threw the other 1.1 frames, giving up 10 runs, only four of which were earned.

Oswego will try to get back to the win column at 3 p.m. on Friday when the Lakers travel to take on Fredonia.
