The Oswego State men`s basketball team had its seven-game win streak snapped in a tough 75-69 overtime loss at Oneonta on Tuesday night. With its first loss in nearly two months, Oswego falls to 8-2 on the season and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.
In a game that produced nine ties and eight lead changes, Oswego had to fight back from an early 10-point deficit at 19-9 at 11:13 in the first half. The Lakers quickly closed the margin to 34-31 at the half.
Oswego came out and got its largest lead of the contest at 8:34 in the second stanza at 52-49. The two squads battled back-and-forth for the final eight minutes, unable to find a victor, stalling at 63-63 to force overtime. The Lakers last lead came at 3:24 in the overtime period with a 67-66 edge. Oneonta would finish the game on a 9-2 run to earn the win.
Brian Sortino led all scorers in the contest, knocking down 11 shots on just 22 attempts to finish with 26 points.Rashawn Powell played another solid and efficient game, gaining his second-straight double-double. Powell finished with a team-high 10 rebounds along with 19 points on 75.0% (9-for-12) shooting from the field. Powell and Sortino were the only Lakers who scored in double digits.
Oswego will look to start a new win streak at 8 p.m. on Friday night when it welcomes Fredonia to Max Ziel Gymnasium for a conference matchup.
