Oswego State Volleyball Suffers First Loss at Ithaca

The Oswego State volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of host Ithaca College 3-0 on Tuesday evening at Ben Light Gymnasium. With the defeat, Oswego is now 3-1 on the year while the Bombers move to 3-2.

Ithaca jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind a 25-16 triumph in the first set. Oswego showed resolve in the second set, fighting off three-straight Bomber set points to even the score at 24-24. The Bombers were able to take three of the last four points, however, to go up 2-0. It was much of the same in what proved to be the final set, as the Lakers kept it close throughout, staying within two at 22-20 before Ithaca closed it out with three-consecutive tallies.

Individually, Isabella Winklestine had a team-high seven kills followed by Ariel Murawski's five and Emma Moriarty's three. Lauren Edwards paced Oswego in the assist column, recording 12 helpers on the night. Passing was owned by Jessica Long, digging 12 balls in the contest.

Defensively, Murawski tied a match-high with five blocks while Megan Russell and Alison Sullivan each had three.

Oswego will look to jump back into the win column at the Nazareth College Invitational this weekend. The Lakers will open with Capital University at 8 p.m. on Friday in Rochester, N.Y.
