Oswego State women's basketball runs away late in 67-49 win over Fredonia

The Oswego State women's basketball team (11-1, 5-0 SUNYAC) was tested early in the second half by conference foe Fredonia (7-4, 2-3 SUNYAC), but the Lakers ran away with the game midway through the second half in a 67-49 home win on Friday night.

Oswego State held the Blue Devils off the scoreboard for the first four minutes of the game, notching two blocks during that span. Quality defense highlighted the first 10 minutes of the contest, as both teams mustered just 10 points apiece.
Fredonia let an early 10-5 lead slip away, as the Lakers rifled off 14 straight points to gain a 19-10 lead with six minutes left in the half. Oswego State's Kari Kipper (Sr., Loudonville, N.Y.) tallied eight of her 11 first-half points during the stretch.
Fredonia's Becky Hebert ended the streak with three straight triples, bring the Blue Devils right back into contention. Hebert torched the Lakers for 16 points in the first half.
However, Fredonia made just one shot from inside the arc in the stanza, shooting 28 percent from the floor. A late layup by Meagan Stover (Sr., Lake George, N.Y.) gave the Lakers a 30-22 lead at halftime.
The Blue Devils used a full-court press to frustrate the Lakers and whittled the Oswego State lead down to three with 14:57 left in the game. However, the Lakers rediscovered their offensive touch and ran away with the game down the stretch.
Oswego State made 12-of-13 free throws in the period to put the game out of reach, as the Fredonia offense lost its rhythm midway through the second half. The Lakers held Hebert to just 1-for-6 shooting in the second half, and she missed both of her three-point attempts after hitting all four treys she tossed up in the first.
With 17 points, Kipper led the Lakers in scoring for the second straight game. Stover chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds. Paula Egelston (Jr., Fultonville, N.Y.) paced Oswego State on the boards with 10 to go along with five points.
The Lakers are back on the court at 2 p.m., today, Jan. 12, as they host the Buffalo State Bengals.
