Oswego State wrestling overpowered by Oneonta, 36-6

OS Wrestling Senior Blake Fisher pushed his win streak to nine matches, but it would not be enough as the Oswego State wrestling team (3-8) lost to Oneonta, 36-6, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26.

Fisher came up just short of recording a major decision at 165 pounds, as he defeated Shaun Gillen, 9-2.
The Lakers fell behind early after a pin at 125 pounds, and nearly cut the deficit in half following the bout at 133 pounds. Omar Santiago (Sr., Huntington Station, N.Y.) almost recorded a takedown at the end of the first period. However, the referee ruled that both wrestlers were out of bounds. Oneonta's Ben Mikac held a 3-2 lead at the end of regulation, but Santiago sent the bout into overtime as he earned a point courtesy of riding time. The match appeared to be headed towards a second overtime frame, but Mikac registered a takedown with 16.5 seconds left.
Oneonta won the next three matches until Fisher put the first Oswego State points on the board. The Red Dragons followed up with three more wins until freshman Jake DeBuyser (Rochester, N.Y.) defeated Jake Smith, 5-2, at 285 pounds to close out the match.
Prior to the match, Oswego State recognized the contributions of its four seniors, Fisher, Santiago, Justin Patus (Sachem, N.Y.) and Ethan Mitchell (Westhampton, N.Y.).
The Lakers have a weekend off before traveling to Cortland for a triangular against the fourth-ranked Red Dragons and U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
