Overtime Buzzer-Beater Downs Oswego at Fredonia

OS BasketballThe Oswego State men`s basketball team lost 68-66 to Fredonia on a buzzer-beater in overtime. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 12-7 overall and 6-6 in the conference while the Blue Devils improve to 5-14, 2-10.

Kyle Covley made his first of two free throws with 23.4 seconds left in the extra period to knot the score at 66-66. Fredonia decided to try and take the last shot but Covley forced a contested shot off a spin move that only found the left-side of the backboard.

Oswego surrendered the offensive rebound off the missed attempt and Blue Devil Alexander Grace quickly turned and fired a shot that found the bottom of the net as time expired.

With just over a minute left in the overtime, Daniel Ross sank a 3-pointer to tie the game at 65-65.

The game featured nine ties and seven lead changes as the largest lead of the contest was Oswego by seven. Fredonia never led by more than four. The Lakers out-rebounded the Blue Devils 43-32 in the contest but allowed 23 points off their 14 turnovers.

Ross finished with a team-high 27 points while Rashawn Powell finished with another double-double, scoring 15 points while collecting 12 boards. Mark Candelario also finished with double-figure rebounds, gathering 11 caroms.

Oswego will be back on the hardwood at 8 p.m. on Tuesday as it hosts Oneonta in a SUNYAC tilt.
