The Oswego State softball team dropped a pair of contests on its second day of action at the PFX Athletics Spring Games on Monday afternoon. With the losses, Oswego falls to 1-3 on the year.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 1, OSWEGO 0:

A third inning, RBI double was the difference in Monday morning's game as Oswego was unable to get a runner across the plate against the Golden Bears. Jessica Roe had a solid outing on the mound, throwing a complete-game four hitter. The freshman struck out three batters and split her other 18 outs evenly with nine coming on the ground as well as in the air.

At the plate, a trio of Lakers combined for the squad's six hits. Gabriella Vertuccio, Sarah McCullough and Katie Heselden each went 2-for-3 at the dish.

KEENE STATE 3, OSWEGO STATE 2:

Tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Keene State led off with a single to right field. Oswego was able to strike out the next batter looking and followed that with a lineout to second. With two outs and a runner on second, the Owls worked a walk to put a force out into play. Keene State's next batter was able to single to left field, however, pushing the winning run home.

Oswego's two runs on the day came courtesy of Ashley Lyman's first inning homer, driving in teammate Erin Sweeney who opened the tilt with a walk. Keene State knotted the game in the fifth with a two-RBI single.

The Lakers had a total of five hits, with McCullough, Heselden, Vertuccio and Kim Dunst each joining Lyman with a hit apiece. Dunst's hit was of the extra-base variety, stroking a double in the top of the sixth inning.

Rebecca Vilchez suffered her first loss of the season in the circle, throwing all 6.2 innings against the Owls. The freshman scattered six hits, struck out four and gave up three earned runs to fall to 1-1 on the year.

Oswego will have Tuesday off before continuing its spring break games at 8 a.m. on Wednesday against Southwestern University. Following the game with Southwestern, the Lakers will take on Concordia University (Wisc.).
