The Oswego State men's track and field team were led by 2014 800-meter All-American Matt Wagenhauser, a successful relay and its core of jumpers at Saturday's Bomber Invitational at Ithaca College.
Wagenhauser has been on a tear ever since earning a top-five spot in the 800 in last season's NCAA Championship, starting out the 2015 campaign undefeated across three different events. The senior's latest win came in his career debut at 1,000 meters, winning the competition in a time of 2:35.85 and finishing just ahead of teammate Nick Reinsdorf (2:36.68, second place). Wagenhauser and Reinsdorf went on to close out the afternoon for the Lakers, helping the team take second-place in the 4x400 relay with teammatesBrandon Comden and Jake Barbara with a time of 3:26.07.
The jumps squad began to return to form following a rough weekend in its previous meet at Houghton. Senior Chris Bridgewater stayed consistent in the triple jump, taking second place with a jump of 13.55 meters (44'5.5").
The Lakers sent two athletes to the finals in the long jump, with sophomore Adam Crumb completing 100% of his jumps to finish 3rd in the event with a leap of 6.51 meters (21'4.25"). In that same event, Bridgewater found himself in danger early in the preliminaries after fouling his first two attempts. Needing a big performance on his third attempt just to reach the finals, the senior jumped to a season-best mark of 6.45 meters (21'2"). The performance was good enough to keep him in 6th place through the final round.
In the high jump, freshman Alex Ladouceur opened up his collegiate career on Saturday, taking home fifth place with a jump of 1.88 meters (6'2").
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Brockport to take part in the Golden Eagle Run.
