The Oswego State women's cross country team commenced its 2016 slate with a fifth place showing – out of 11 squads – at the SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational. Two Lakers placed in the top-15, paced by Lauren McNamara's ninth place finish.
McNamara – a senior – ran at a 6;44 pace, crossing the finish line in 17:33.6. She was just over a second out of eighth place and warded off the 10th-place runner by less than a second. Junior Morgan Bronner was Oswego's other runner in the top-20, coming in at 17:37.5 for 15th place.
Senior Sylvia Pericles (23rd) and sophomore Shauna Fliss (29th) both were inside the top-30, clocking in at 18:38.7 and 19:01.6, respectively. Freshman Hanna Greulich took 34th in her first-career collegiate race with a time of 19:13.1.
Oswego's next meet will be its lone home showing, hosting several schools for the 26th Annual Oswego State Invitational at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
