Women's Lacrosse Avenges Loss at Oneonta; Advances to SUNYAC Semis

The fifth-seeded Oswego State women's lacrosse team (11-5) avenged a regular-season loss with a 12-8 victory at No. 4 Oneonta (9-7-1) in the SUNYAC Championship First Round on Tuesday afternoon. Oswego advances to face top-seeded and nationally-ranked Cortland at 12:30 p.m. on Friday in the semifinal round.

It was a strong beginning and finish for Oswego, who opened the game with five of the tilt's first six goals in an 11:04 span. Oneonta made its presence known through the middle portion of the contest, erasing the four-goal deficit to own 6-5 and 7-6 advantages. The Lakers reversed the momentum down the stretch, however, notching six of the outing's last seven scores for the four-goal triumph.

Junior Brigid Regin led all players in points on Tuesday, recording six on five goals and an assist. Classmate Toni Laneve was next in the point column with three, scoring twice while helping on another Laker tally. Sophomore Montana Garrett and senior Gemma O'Kane each finished the day with two goals. The final Lakers with points were sophomore Riley Jaquin with a goal and Teresa Shattuck with an assist.

In goal, Angela Ponto anchored a solid defensive effort with 10 saves for a .556 save percentage. Her defenders were just as important, paced by a stifling effort by junior Danielle Walker. Walker accounted for four of the Lakers' nine caused turnovers and scooped up a game-high five ground balls.

On the draw, Shattuck (4) and Regin (3) combined for 10 of Oswego's 10 controls.

As a team, Oswego attempted one more shot than Oneonta (25-24), completed 20 of its 22 clear chances and earned two more free-position shots (8-6).
