The Oswego State women`s cross country team opened its 2014 season with a first place finish at the 5K SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational on Saturday morning.
Senior Meghan Murphy led the Lakers, placing third individually with a time of 20:43 and a pace of 6:41 per mile. Junior Sarah Popovitch crossed the finish line shortly after Murphy, finishing the event in fifth place with a time of 20:49.
Not only was Oswego responsible for two runners placing in the top five overall, the Lakers' top seven runners all finished within the top 20, including Katie Bott's top-10 placing 21:22.
Oswego will look to build on its first invitational win of the young season, when it hosts the 5K Oswego Pat Peterson Invitational at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
