
The Oswego State wrestling team finished in sixth place out of 11 teams at the Ithaca College Invitational, which wrapped up the second and final day on Saturday morning. Johnson & Wales finished in the top spot while the host Bombers captured second place.
Four Lakers finished in the top-six of their respective weight classes during the invitational.
James Ronca had the highest placing for Oswego, claiming second place at 125. Ronca opened the Saturday with an 8-4 decision over Cody Beaudette of first-place finishing Johnson & Wales. He followed that up with a sudden 5-3 victory over NYU's Jacob Donato. In the final match, Ithaca College's James Kaishian was able to end Ronca's run with an 11-2 major decision.
The Lakers next-highest finishers were Abubakarr Sow and Scott Bova, both taking third place. Sow lost his 157-quarterfinal match but fought his way through the consolation bracket to earn the top-three finish. The junior racked up two wins by fall along with two decisions, including the major 12-2 triumph in the third-place bout.
Bova shutout his quarterfinal opponent 5-0 in the 184-weight class but lost a close 3-2 battle in the semifinal. The captain then beat Steven Sabella of the host Bombers with ease, 8-1, to solidify a spot in the match for third place. There he met Joshua Sibblies of Centenary College and the senior disposed of his opponent, 9-5.
Rounding out the top-six finishers for Oswego was Mark Milisci at 149. Milisci fell in his quarterfinal match before taking two bouts in the consolation bracket. In round four, Milisci beat Centenary's Collin Farley 6-5. The following round saw the sophomore taking another decision, this time 3-1 over Ricky Perrine of Stevens Institute of Technology.
Oswego's next match will be a dual when it hosts Rochester Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. on Friday in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
