Lauren Nunziato (West Sand Lake, N.Y.), a junior on the women's basketball team, and Andrew Hare (Burlington, Ontario), a senior goalie on the men's ice hockey team, have been named the Oswego State Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 9.
Nunziato helped the Lakers remain undefeated during the week. Going into the week, the Lakers boasted the nation's top scoring defense. On Tuesday, the Lakers stymied the Brockport offense, as Oswego State held the Golden Eagles to 24.1 percent shooting and 37 points. Nunziato also contributed 10 points, five rebounds and a block. On Saturday, Nunziato registered a double-double against Rochester scoring 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting and adding a career-high 10 boards. On the defensive end, Nunziato helped the Lakers hold the Yellowjackets to season-lows in field goal
percentage (23.7) and points scored (41).
Hare kept the Lakers close on Friday night against ninth-ranked Utica, making 30 saves in the game. The only goal scored in the third period was an empty-netter, with Hare having made 11 saves in the stanza to keep the Lakers within one. On Saturday, Hare registered a season-high 44 saves against fourth-ranked Hobart to hand the Statesmen their first loss of the season. The Laker goalie kept Hobart off the scoreboard for the game's first 58 minutes. In overtime, he made three stops before the Lakers were able to net the game-winner.
