Roth-Geyer Connection Propels Lakers to Victory

Roth-Geyer Connection Propels Lakers to Victory

The Oswego State women's soccer team cruised to a 3-1 victory at New Paltz to start the SUNYAC slate on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers improve to 4-1-1 on the year while the Hawks drop to 4-5-0.

Less than two minutes before the end of the first half, Oswego broke onto the scoreboard. Lynsey Roth tallied her first collegiate goal at 43:20 off a pass from senior Emma Geyer.

After carrying the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, Roth and Geyer were at it again. At 61:27, the Geyer connected with her freshman teammate who found the back of the net, inspiring some déjà vu while expanding the Laker advantage to 2-0.

Oswego made it a 3-0 contest at 80:22 when Audrey Burbidge notched her first goal of 2017. The junior was assisted by Corinna Chambers as the sophomore earned her first collegiate point.

Emma Allen continued to be consistent in net for the Lakers, stopping five Hawk shots to add a mark in her win column.

As a team, Oswego outshot New Paltz 19-13 overall and 9-6 on on-goal chances. The Lakers also drew two more corner kick opportunities than their counterparts (4-2).

Oswego will stay on the road for its next game as the Lakers travel to Oneonta for a 1 p.m. league matchup on Saturday.
