Women's Basketball Closes Season with Loss to No. 23 Geneseo

The Oswego State women's basketball team battled nationally-ranked Geneseo to a 47-31 loss on Saturday afternoon in Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Prior Saturday's tip, Oswego recognized its seniors – Courtney Ameele and Zana Dillard. The Lakers had to play the game without Ameele, who suffered an injury in Friday's game against Brockport. Dillard finishes her career at 735 rebounds, ranking sixth all-time at Oswego while Ameele is just one of 10 members in the program's 1,000-point club (1,064).

The Lakers hung tight with Geneseo throughout the first two quarters, trailing by eight at halftime. In the first quarter, Geneseo was able to maintain a six-point advantage but the Lakers only surrendered a two-point advantage in the second, as the Knights outscored Oswego 15-13. Rachael Windhausen was had nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes to go along with seven points, both team-highs for the half. Raiven Encarnacion filled the stat sheet in the opening stanza, scoring six points, grabbing three rebounds and distributing two assists.

Geneseo pulled away in the third quarter, doubling its lead to 16 at 42-26. In the game's final 10 minutes, neither team was able to find its offensive prowess, tying 5-5 to reach the final of 47-31.

Windhausen missed a double-double by just one points as she collected a career-high 15 rebounds and scored nine points. Encarnacion finished just one-point shy of tying her career-high, tallying 12 points. Dillard helped on the glass with 12 boards while also blocking a game-high three shots and turning Geneseo over twice.

The Lakers close their season at 7-18 overall and 4-14 in the SUNYAC while the Knights advance to the postseason at 23-2, 18-0.
