News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Field Hockey`s Offense Powers Lakers Past Morrisville

OS Field Hockey

The Oswego State field hockey team defeated Morrisville 7-0 at home on Wednesday. The win increases the team`s record to 5-8 on the season, and it's SUNYAC record to 1-3 while Morrisville drops to 2-10, 0-4.

The Lakers' Rachel Johnston sparked the offense early as she was able to score off a Lisa O'Callaghan pass 13:55 into the first half.

That was just the start for O'Callaghan as she was able to knock one in at the 26:35 mark off an aerial pass sent in by Erin O'Brien. Johnston was able to pay back O'Callaghan for the earlier assist, feeding the ball to the New Hyde Park native for a tap in at 33:19. O'Callaghan then completed her hat trick moments later off another Johnston assist with just 16 seconds to play in the opening period.

Oswego had no plans to take the foot off the gas in the second half as it tacked on three more goals. Grace Rinaldi scored just under seven minutes in, as she corralled a rebound off an Abigail Leahey shot and knocked the ball into the back of the net. Jess Bordonaro collected her first goal of the season as she was able to beat the goalie off a pass from O'Brien before Jenna Jevons put on the finishing touches with an unassisted goal with 13:49 remaining in regulation.

Sarita Charap started between the pipes for the Lakers and, with the help of the defense, faced zero shots-on-goal through 35 minutes. Grace Lombardi took over in the second half and made a save on the sole shot put on target by the Mustangs.

The 7-0 victory is the largest margin of victory for the Lakers since the team defeated Wells College by the same score on Oct. 17 of last year.

Field Hockey will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a home bout against Wells. Fans are asked to wear the color orange as the game is promoting awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.
