News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Final Minute Goals Undo Men's Lacrosse in SUNYAC Opener

The Oswego State men's lacrosse dropped its SUNYAC opener 8-6 to Brockport on Saturday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. With the loss – just the Lakers' second of the year – Oswego goes to 6-2 and 0-1 in the conference while the Golden Eagles improve to 3-5, 1-0.

Oswego and Brockport trades the game's first two goals before the Golden Eagles scored three-straight to hold a 4-1 advantage. Bobby Emerson tallied his second of the day at 8:02 of the second to make it a two-goal deficit, which held until halftime.

Emerson made it a one-goal margin in the third, as the junior's notch was the only score of the 15-minute frame. Early in the final quarter, Kyle Bacon scored his 19th goal of the season to knot the game at 4-4. Just 1:29 later, Oswego garnered its first advantage of the day off a Tyler Nason unassisted goal. Brockport was able to regain the lead with back-to-back scores from Liam O'Connor before Bacon again evened the game off an assist from Emerson with 3:37 remaining.

Brockport scored the eventual game-winner on a transition clear with 46 seconds left and tallied its final goal with six seconds left off a set play out of a timeout.

Also with points for Oswego on the day were Caleb Alford and Tim Schof, each recording an assist apiece.

On defense, the Lakers turned Brockport over 15 times, with John Petrelli and Emerson each causing one. Emerson also had a team-high five ground balls while Teddy Phillips scooped up four and goalie Kevin O'Donnell had three. O'Donnell made seven saves in between the pipes for Oswego.

At the faceoff circle, sophomore Kyle O'Connor won 8 of his 18 chances.

The Lakers will look to hop back into the win column when they return to game play at 1 p.m. on Saturday at defending-conference champion Plattsburgh.
