The Oswego State field hockey team fell to St. Lawrence University by a score of 5-1 on Friday night at Laker Turf Stadium. Originally slated for 7 p.m., the game started at 8:40 p.m. due to lightning and transportation delays. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 0-2 on the season while the Saints improve to 2-2.
Oswego's goal came in the 64th minute, when junior Lacey Woite fed the ball to midfielder Riley Mallett, who was able to score. Woite tied for the game-high with four shots, two of which were on goal, in addition to her assist. Mallett, Brianna Ciganek and Kathleen Little each had one shot for the Lakers.
Goalkeeper Sarita Charap made nine saves despite taking the loss in 70 minutes of work.
In the first half, both teams were evenly matched, with the Saints only holding a 1-0 lead at halftime. The first 10:47 of the second half proved to be the turning point. Out of the break, St. Lawrence was able to notch four goals by 45:47 for a 5-0 advantage.
The Lakers will play again at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Elmira College.
